Meet Your Instructors: Nathan Altimari
One of the awesome things about VoCALnation is that it brings in aca-talent from everywhere. We’ve decided to run a series of posts about the instructors that will be teaching at this year’s event. We begin by asking Nathan Altimari from Firedrill! a few questions about his life inside and outside of the a cappella world. Nathan will be a part of the Arranging Panel at VCN, and we’re pretty stoked to hear some of his tips. Thanks for the interview, Nathan!
Name: Nathan Altimari
A cappella group (if you are a part of one): Firedrill! (founder/MD)
Favorite song at the moment: “You Met Your Match” (Broussard cover of Stevie Wonder)
What you’re teaching: Arranging panel
What can people expect from your workshop?: Outside the box arranging ideas and fixes.
What’s one a cappella thing VCN attendees might be surprised to know about you?: I didn’t sing in public for the first time until my sophomore year of college.
Also, I didn’t watch one episode from Season 2 or 3 of The Sing Off.
What’s your favorite sound, and why?: I love “gren” – pronounced “gden”. Also the simplicity and effectiveness of a solid unison “Bop”
Any guilty pleasures?: Does Pentatonix count? How about Colbie Calliat?
Finally, who are you most excited to see and hear at VCN (instructor or group)?: I’m beyond excited to see Afro Blue!
